Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

01/03/07 Rosie shines new light on the problem after three dark

Three street lights on Southport Road by the Civic Centre in Orrmskirk have finally been fixed after three winters not working. Following complaints from local residents local MP Rosie Cooper demanded immediate action from the Highways Agency. The three lighting columns have now been repaired and are back in full working order.

Local residents concerned for the safety of drivers and pedestrians because the lighting was so poor complained and were repeatedly promised the problem would be solved but three winters passed and still had no lights. One local resident was hit on the elbow by a passing van and they feared an even more serious accident may happen!

Rosie said:

“It is just unacceptable that the Highways Authority took so long to fix the problem. Southport Road carries a lot of traffic in and out of Ormskirk every day. During the winter months when it is dark for long periods of the day, street lighting is vital for road safety. Thankfully there were no serious accidents caused by the poor street lighting on this occasion.”
