West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has spoken out on the situation relating to the future of Whitemoss Landfill after the claims and counterclaims in recent weeks.
MP Rosie said:
“There is an intense battle going on over the future of the Whitemoss landfill site, with people trying to blindside each other which is threatening to detract from the priority – which is what is in the best interests of Skelmersdale residents and West Lancashire.
“The inspector’s decision comes down to whether West Lancashire should become a dumping ground for hazardous waste from areas outside West Lancashire. I believe that it is not right and it’s not safe.
“I understand that there is sufficient landfill space for hazardous waste for the next 68 years in the region. At the same time we are supposed to be recycling more and sending less to landfill. I think enough is enough for the residents of Skelmersdale and West Lancashire.
“The residents in West Lancashire I speak to are only interested in protecting their health, the environment and preventing our area continuing to be a dumping ground for the rest of Lancashire and beyond
