Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

02/08/11 - Closure of Elm Place

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:

"While care homes are not the necessarily the best environments for the looked after children, my fear is that the driving force for these changes is the need to cut budgets.  In this case more than a 30% budget cut from £7.5 million to £5 million over the next three years.  Yet again it is another frontline service to one of the most vulnerable and at risk groups within our communities that will have to bear the brunt.

"Nor am I reassured that the county council has the alternative arrangements in place for when the proposed closures take place.  That they are making a plea for more people to come forward to be foster carers at the same time, suggests to me that the need to save money was placed ahead of the children's best interests in the list of priorities.
