Commenting on the new speed restrictions, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“I very much welcome the introduction of 20 mph zones outside our schools. Throughout my time as MP I have campaigned for improved road safety. I’ve had to deal with cases of road traffic accidents and even fatalities, which have involved school children. Any steps to make our roads safer should be supported.
“There is the issue, though, of enforcing these new speed limits. Drivers need to know there will be consequences for not sticking to the 20 mph speed limit. We need to ensure that these 20 mph zones can and do make a difference in improving safety outside the school gates for children and parents.”
