Skelmersdale could have its own town hall in the future, Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire, can reveal. Rosie raised the matter with West Lancashire District Council question of Skelmersdale once again having its own civic buildings in the town centre, following an issue raised by a constituent.

At present plans for the regeneration of Skelmersdale town centre are being consulted on with local residents. A 10 to 15 year timeframe is planned for the scheme during which time Skelmersdale could achieve Town Council status. If this happens the town would require new civic buildings.

Rosie said:

“The success of the Skelmersdale Vision is based on Skelmersdale people as it is their views that matter. The Council need to be aware of, and listen closely, to the views of local residents, whether this is in relation to the future of Firbeck or the creation of parish councils in the town in the years ahead. West Lancashire District Council need to be building those views and thoughts into the Skelmersdale Vision plans now. A future civic heart for the town is vitally important in a regenerated Skelmersdale.”

The response from West Lancashire District Council states ‘a town hall could be an important feature of the streetscape in a new town centre and if Skelmersdale achieves a ‘Town Council’ consideration will be given to this matter.

Skelmersdale previously had a town hall located on the corner of Clayton Street and Sandy Lane.
