In reaction to Labour’s success at the polls in West Lancashire, local Labour MP Rosie Cooper said:
“We had hoped to win four seats, we won five and nearly took seven seats. Congratulations to all the new and returning councillors on a great night for Labour.
“For the third year running the residents of West Lancashire have shown they have no appetite for the Conservative Party and their policies, locally and nationally. Labour won the 2010 general election; Labour has secured more votes in each of the last three elections for the Borough Council; and Labour has made significant gains in council seats.
“I would say that people of West Lancashire have not just spoken but have shouted their anger at the incompetency and attacks on hard working people and families of this Conservative-led Government. They have said no to a Conservative-run Borough Council that squirrels council taxpayers’ money away in reserves whilst slashing services and jobs.
“People are feeling the effects of these Conservative decisions everyday in their pockets, at their workplace, and in the services they receive. The clear message is the people of West Lancashire don’t believe this Conservative-led Government when they say that we are all in this together. It’s obvious we’re not.”
