Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

04/07/06 Rosie Cooper comment on BUPA contract

Rosie said:

“It has been a difficult time for Southport and Ormskirk hospitals. We have fought off merger with Liverpool Hospitals and have been trying to sort out large debts, which will ensure that our hospitals future is safe.”

“This news is the beginning of reinforcing and strengthening NHS health services in West Lancashire. We need to make sure that Ormskirk becomes a full, busy, thriving unit and this contract ensures that the facilities on the Ormskirk site do have a future in delivering NHS services.”

“This is not privatisation. I believe in the NHS and have worked for it all my life and would never support privatisation. This is the NHS working in partnership with BUPA, delivering NHS services free at the point of use and available to all regardless of means!”

“This week I have met with Health Minister, Rosie Winterton and am now continuing to work with the new Regional Health Authority and Southport & Ormskirk Hospital to resolve the issue of the £20 million debt and get on with providing NHS services close to the people of Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.”
