WEST Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is calling on highways chiefs to solve flooding problems on a Skelmersdale estate.
The Labour MP has written to Lancashire County Council after seeing for herself the problems faced by residents on Egerton.
Rosie explained: “I was on the estate just the other day when there was a heavy downpour.
“Because the grids could not cope, there were flash floods everywhere. I met one resident whose garage had been flooded out because of them.
“I’ve written to the County Council calling on them to inspect every grid on the estate with a view to fixing the problem once and for all.
“It may be that they need to join forces with West Lancs District Council because there is also an issue on Egerton regarding debris on the walkways which obviously doesn’t help the situation.
“One thing which became clear while walking around the estate is that with it being on a hill, there is an inescapable problem during heavy downpours because water will always trickle down to the lowest point.
“However, my point is that if the drainage system was working effectively then problems would be kept to a minimum.”
