Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

Every year West Lancashire residents are terrorised by people setting off fireworks in the street of West Lancashire. Even though Bonfire Night is some weeks away there are already complaints about fireworks being set-off. We must take control of the situation and seek to stop this indiscriminately dangerous behaviour. What for some people is a bit of fun is for others a fearful and alarming nightmare that they must endure night after night.

Rosie Cooper MP said:

“Every year we have problems with people buying fireworks and using them unsupervised. We have all heard stories about damage caused by the irresponsible use of fireworks and we need to take steps to stop this happening. This misuse of fireworks causes a huge nuisance for local residents as well as posing a real danger to people’s safety.”

I’m sure we all enjoy the spectacular sight of a fireworks display. What we don’t enjoy is the disruption and nuisance of fireworks being used inappropriately.

More needs to be done to stop fireworks being sold for this type of unsafe use. One way is to place even tighter restrictions on the sale of fireworks. I have received calls requesting a ban on the public sale of fireworks.

What we need here in West Lancashire are official organised displays across the district that provides a place where people can enjoy Bonfire night in complete safety.

If you experience any problems with fireworks nuisance in your area please let me know.”
