West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is warning residents to be aware that they should not have to pay for their European Union Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
This warning comes at a particularly important time of the year as many West Lancashire residents are planning to travel to other EU countries during the holiday season. Currently, top searches for the term 'EHIC' on Google, Yahoo and MSN all provide paid advertisements at the top of the page that charge £10 to process an EHIC application. The websites are professional looking and mislead the consumer into thinking that the service is sponsored by the government.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented: "Do not be fooled by websites that want to make money by deceiving consumers. All British citizens have a right to get a free EHIC and ensure they are protected no matter where they travel to within EEA countries. These cards are valid for five years and allow the cardholder to receive local treatment for free or at a reduced cost."
West Lancashire residents should go to www.ehic.org.uk to receive their FREE EHI Card provided by the NHS.
