WEST Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has been told that the local workforce will be used to help build the new Skelmersdale Town Centre.

Rosie has received the assurance from developers St Modwen after she wrote to them calling for local workers to be employed during the construction phase.

The Skelmersdale Vision project is a £350m scheme to transform Skelmersdale’s town centre with a range of new facilities, including a cinema, restaurant, homes and shops.

St Modwen bosses have indicated to Rosie that the process of engaging with local training and employment agencies is due to start next year.

Rosie said: “This is fantastic news for the local economy. Skelmersdale has a vibrant construction sector, indeed a new Construction Academy opened only last year on Gillibrands Industrial Estate, so it would be a shame if the developers had chosen not to tap into that pool of rich talent.

“I am delighted that St Modwen has given this commitment, and am now seeking a meeting with them to progress the matter further.

"If you think your business can help build the new Skelmersdale, I would urge you to register with St Modwen as soon as they send out their call for interest."
