Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

07/11/11 - Olympic Torch will pass through Burscough and Ormskir

Following the announcement that the Olympic Torch will pass through Burscough and Ormskirk as it is paraded around the UK ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, West Lancashire MP, Rosie Cooper said:

“You often catch a glimpse on TV of the Olympic Torch being paraded through the streets of another country with thousands of people lining the streets.  In June next year the Olympic torch will be on our streets, being paraded through our communities.

"I am really excited by this news but even more so for the residents of West Lancashire.   I’m sure children, parents, and grandparents will be lining the route of the torch relay in what for many this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“It is not just about the one day of the torch relay or the two weeks of competition.  Inspiring young people to get actively involved in sports is at the very heart of the Olympic movement and I hope that events such as the torch replay will fire that inspiration.”
