In response to Government Plans to sell of the Public Forest Estate Rosie Cooper MP said:
“I consider the Government’s plans to sell off England’s public forests as an outrage and one I oppose and have voted against in Parliament. There is a real anger amongst the public with a huge number of West Lancashire residents writing to me absolutely opposed to the sale of our public forests.
“Under the Conservative-led Government’s plans to sell the Public Forest estate we could lose up to 30 million trees, see extensive damage to public rights of way, loss of jobs, efforts to tackle climate change harmed as well as education and public health programmes hit.
“This is not the first time a Conservative government has tried to sell-off our forests. In the 1980s thousands of hectares of land was sold off. The true value of England’s forests can never be reflected in the price the Government receives.”
