Rosie Cooper MP today thanked all local staff who worked over Christmas.
“From care staff and emergency services to retail and catering staff, there are thousands of people who work hard over the Christmas period to make sure we all enjoy a happy holiday."
“These staff all deserve a decent break at some point to enjoy themselves, to be with family and friends and have a well-earned rest."
“I am delighted that in future all staff who work on bank holidays will receive paid time off to compensate, thanks to Labour’s Work and Families Bill which I am supporting.”
At present, many staff do receive paid time off for bank holidays, but there are an estimated 3 million who don’t. John Hannett of shopworkers’ union Usdaw, has been campaigning for the change, and welcomed Rosie Cooper MP’s assistance.
“Rosie Cooper MP is a great supporter of better rights, especially for the most vulnerable workers. This Bill will increase the right to paid holidays by an extra 8 days a year – a fantastic Christmas present for hard-working staff.”
