Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

09/02/07 MP Rosie brings Nye Bevan stand-off to an end

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper secured further improvements for disabled users of Nye Bevan leisure centre. Rosie called a meeting between West Lancashire District Council, Serco and disabled users of the centre to resolve the stand off that had rumbled on for nearly 18 months.

It was a productive meeting in which all sides agreed that changes still need to be made to improve the accessibility of the Nye Bevan facilities.

Rosie said:

“I am delighted that we are finally moving towards a conclusion on this matter. It was accepted that work still needed to be done and I am confident that it will improve the quality of access for disabled users.”

“The most substantial piece of work is to fit a changing bed for disabled users rather than using a sun lounger as before. I am aware that disabled users have been consulted and now the facility will be specially designed for Nye Bevan.”

“I will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all the work is completed as I have been promised.”
