West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is delighted Merseyrail and Lancashire Police have reached an agreement over a lease that will keep Aughton Police Point open without the need to include Aughton Parish Council.
Last Week MP Rosie Cooper revealed that Aughton Parish Council was stalling on signing the lease nearly two and a half years after a deal was reached between Lancashire Police and Merseyrail. This deal followed a public outcry after a recommendation to close the Police Point operating from Town Green railway station.
MP Rosie said:
“A huge thank you is due to Lancashire Police and Merseyrail for getting this situation resolved and finally bringing some certainty to the future of Aughton Police Point.
“Clearly a lesson for the future is not to involve Aughton Parish Council if you are wanting to get a job done.
“Despite protesting they weren’t dragging their feet there is absolutely no way finalising the November 2011 agreement could or should have taken this inordinate length of time.
“I am assured that the deal between Lancashire Police and Merseyrail will be completed in a matter of weeks, thankfully.
"It is good that they were prepared to listen to local residents.
“I am sure Aughton residents will be delighted at this news, finally the Police Point will be secure. This is all they asked for two and a half years ago."
