Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancs, is calling on local groups to sign up and take part in the Opening Weekend for the 2012 London Olympics in July 2009.

London 2012 Open Weekend is now the annual national celebration and countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games that will be on the 27th July 2012. The weekend, which takes place between 24th and 26th July this year, is a chance for non-commercial cultural, sporting, voluntary, youth or education organisations from across the country to join in the celebration and harness the excitement of the Games.

Rosie said:

“Taking part in the Open Weekend is a great way for local groups to showcase their activities and services to politicians, funders, the press and the local community. I want to ensure that groups from West Lancashire take part in the celebration and highlight to the rest of the country the diverse range of activity and talent we have here.”

Groups have until 23rd June to register their local events and then a national marketing campaign will begin to promote the events across the UK. Last year over 650 events took place, attracting 750,000 people.
