West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper welcomed Lancashire County Council’s decision to finally install a pedestrian crossing on Derby Street in Ormskirk in the vicinity of the Railway Bridge.
However, MP Rosie was left wondering whether this was another County Council empty promise as they failed to commit to the funding and only stated the scheme will be “considered in the 2014/15 Capital Programme”.
At present pedestrians have to dodge the traffic on the one way system, taking their life into their own hands just to cross the road. MP Rosie raised the matter with Lancashire County Council after residents complained about the difficulties they experienced in getting across the busy road.
MP Rosie said:
“Residents have told me they feel as if they are taking their life in their own hands just crossing the road in Ormskirk. Given the volume of traffic passing this point on the one-way system, we need to ensure that pedestrians have a safe area to cross.
“Although I welcome this commitment, as we have seen before the County Council have stopped short of backing the scheme 100% with funding. I hope they will confirm that the money has been allocated for this crossing as soon as possible.”
