Rosie Cooper MP

Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

10/08/09 MP Rosie comments on Skelmersdale Train Station

“The money from the Department of Transport to make up the funding shortfall for the building of a new train station in Buckshaw in Chorley comes from a Government scheme to support transport projects for new housing developments. This does not impact on any future transport proposals for West Lancashire."

“I am committed to delivering a train station for the people of Skelmersdale and the re-opening of the Burscough Curves. I have had meetings with ministers, asked numerous questions in Parliament and taken part in many debates where I have raised the issue. I have also written to Merseyrail and Network Rail and I submitted a formal response to the Merseyside Rail Utilisation Strategy consultation earlier this year to make the case for a train station in Skelmersdale and the re-opening of the Burscough Curves."

“The huge social and economic benefits that improved rail links would bring to West Lancashire residents cannot be overstated and I will continue working with local organisations, Government Ministers and partners such as Merseyrail and Network Rail to deliver these much needed improvements for local people.”
