West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the news the Prime Minister has will now personally give the Government’s response to Hillsborough Independent Panel report later this week.
MP Rosie put her name to a letter calling on David Cameron to make the statement in the Commons after it emerged the Home Secretary, Teresa May, was expected to lead the Government response. This prompted a group of MPs, including West Lancashire’s Rosie Cooper, to make a direct plea to the Prime Minister.
MP Rosie said:
“It is only right that it is the Prime Minister as the Head of Government who comes before the House of Commons to respond to the Independent Panel's report on Hillsborough.
“There were 96 Families who lost loved ones and so many thousands more affected by this tragedy. They have fought long and hard for justice. How the Government responds to this report will be part of restoring a sense of justice and healing for those affected by Hillsborough. It is a good start the Prime Minister will now be the one to begin that process.”
