Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

11/07/11 - County Council’s £27 million underspend

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper reacted angrily to the news that Conservative-run Lancashire County Council had underspent by £27 million in the last financial year and yet continue to slash services for local people.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said;

“Lancashire County Council has taken decision after decision that will cut services and support to the most elderly and vulnerable in our communities. There is a long and growing list.

“The future of Dial-A-Ride services is under threat, 500% increases in charges for people to attend the Derby Centre, social care support scrapped for many elderly and vulnerable people, bus fare charges introduced for families sending their children to church schools.

“It seems that County Council Conservative’s are learning the lessons from their colleagues at West Lancashire Borough Council by pleading poverty, cutting jobs and services whilst stashing away council taxpayers money away in the bank.”

“What else should we expect when Conservative’s are in charge.  They know the price of everything but the value of nothing.”
