Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

11/09/06 MP Rosie comments on current Labour leadership

On the current Labour leadership debate Rosie said:

“I have not signed any letters or taken any side. I am much more interested in using all my time on issues relating to West Lancashire. High on my priorities are Southport and Ormskirk Hospital, local bus services, Ormskirk bypass, and burial facilities in West Lancashire to name just a few important and immediate issues.”

“I am really saddened that the events of last week took place. Undoubtedly, it was a moment of madness. A very difficult week but it is time to move on, putting the country first, and as a Government getting on with running the country, dealing with much more pressing issues.”

“Tony Blair is the most successful Labour leader ever and Gordon Brown the most successful Chancellor. They have worked together for over 20 years in difficult times as well as very good times, and I look to them to continue to work together sharing a determination to advance the interests of the people of our country.”

“The prime Minister has indicated that he will leave office within a year and that there should be an orderly change of leadership. It is most likely that Gordon Brown will be his successor. It is in no ones interests, the individuals concerned, their supporters, the Labour Party or the country for this squabble to continue. Silence on this subject and concentration on real issues would be welcomed by everyone I'm sure.”
