Labour's candidate for West Lancashire, Rosie Cooper this weekend launched her re-election campaign announcing that she will stand on her record of deliver for West Lancashire. Rosie was joined at the launch by Labour Parliamentary colleague and former Skelmersdale County Councillor Louise Ellman along with Labour members and supporters on Saturday 10th April at the Ecumenical Centre in Skelmersdale. Labour's Rosie Cooper said: "I was delighted to be amongst friends as I launched my campaign to keep West Lancashire Labour. It was great to welcome Louise back to West Lancashire. As a former leader of Lancashire County Council and resident of West Lancashire, she reminded us just how much damage the Conservatives caused to areas like West Lancashire last time they were in government. "It is not in their words the Tories need to be judged but in their actions. Just look at the actions of the local Conservative Council, of which the Conservative candidate is a leading member. He was finance chief as the council squirreled away £23 million of council taxpayer's money while they make council staff redundant, refuse to fund the option of free rail travel for local pensioners and refuse to support free swimming for under-16s. They're even planning on building plush new civic offices for themselves. "Over the next 25 days residents will have a real choice to make, whether they want a Labour MP and Labour Government or Thatcher's offspring, whose priorities are clearly not the priorities of local residents." Labour activists then took to the streets knocking on voters doors and handing out leaflets as the general election campaign officially kicked off. Rosie is standing on her record of delivery having served as the area's Member of Parliament since 2005. During this time she has secured £3 million for a new Urgent Care Centre, delivered nearly 17,000 extra NHS dental places, fought to have the funding reinstated for a £42 million state-of-the-art college campus and campaigned with local residents to save Newburgh Post Office to name just some of the campaigns she has worked on. | |
