Rosie Cooper MP is calling on West Lancashire Borough Council to come clean over the reasons why it has been referred to the Traffic Commissioner after being investigated by the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency (VOSA).
In response to MP Rosie revealing the investigation the Borough Council issued a mealy-mouthed statement, which failed to explain why it had been investigated in the first place. It also ignored the MPs request to put the information in the public domain.
Now the MP has written to the Borough Council offering them one last opportunity to come clean before sending a Freedom of Information request to the Traffic Commissioner to get the truth.
MP Rosie said:
“It is just staggering how the Borough Council treats the council taxpayers of West Lancashire with such contempt.
“The statement they issued about this investigation is dismissive as if they have something to hide. Whilst the Council may now be complying with the rules questions remain about why VOSA carried out three investigatory visits and then refer the council to the Traffic Commissioner. This action wouldn’t be required if the council had been complying when VOSA first visited.
“The Conservative-run Borough Council claim to an employer who is ‘caring about and involving staff’ but the evidence would suggest otherwise.
“Whatever the situation the people of West Lancashire deserve to know the truth of actions being carried out in their name. This leaves the Council with a choice – either they provide a full explanation of the situation or I will be forced to request the documents under Freedom of Information from the Traffic Commissioner.
“This is just the latest episode in which the competency of West Lancashire Borough Council is brought into question. We lost Matalan and we have the One Connect Limited debacle as just two examples.”
