Rosie Cooper MP joined local postman, Ian Moran, for a close-up look at what it takes to get the post to West Lancashire homes and businesses six days a week.
MP Rosie took up Royal Mail’s invitation to visit Skelmersdale Delivery Office where she met Delivery Office Manager James Smith and postie Ian Moran as they sorted the days post ahead of delivery across the WN8 postcode area.
Following the visit, James said:
“Thank you to Rosie for taking the time to come and visit the office to see the work our team of postal workers do every day.
“The visit gave us the opportunity to show her how we are modernising our organisation. This includes Skelmersdale delivery office where she could witness firsthand that we are delivering more parcels and fewer letters than ever before.”
MP Rosie said:
“The Royal Mail is a British institution, one that everyone recognises – whether it is the postboxes, vans or the good old post men and women out on their rounds in all weather.
“It is the staff who are the real backbone of the organisation, people like Ian who has been delivering post for the last 22 years.
“There is a lot of change within the postal service and particular challenges it faces. I wanted to see for myself how Royal Mail is dealing with these challenges and hear from the staff about their experiences.
“All the staff at the Skelmersdale Delivery Office were very welcoming. It was a real pleasure to spend time with them and see them at work.”
