13/02/08 Rosie Cooper MP meets with Post Office to discuss future changes to services in West Lancashire

Julie Young and Andy Wright from the Post Office meet with Rosie Cooper MP

Rosie Cooper MP met with senior Post Office officials to discuss proposed changes to Post Office services in West Lancashire through the closure of branches in Shirdley Hill and Wrightington.

Rosie said: “I had a robust discussion with senior Post Office officials where I raised the concerns of my constituents who will be losing some services.

Although West Lancs will not be hit as hard as other parts of the country under these proposed changes. I’ve had a commitment from the Post Office that beyond the 2 proposed closures, any further closures are unlikely.

Fewer people are using Post Office branches because they are buying their stamps from supermarkets and other outlets, and e-mail is fast eroding the tradition of letter writing. Many other services, including benefit payments and other services are now also available in banks and online.

Rosie would encourage anyone who has a view on the proposed changes to contact Richard Lynds, Network Development Manager Post Office Ltd by emailing consultation@postoffice.co.uk or telephone 08457 22 33 44.

The formal period of local consultation on the Area Plan Proposal commenced on 22 January 2008 and ends on 3 March 2008. No changes will be implemented before April 2008.
