West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
"The NewBuy Scheme, like so many of the Conservative-led Government's programmes, appears on the face of it to offer help. However, it is only when you dig deeper into the detail that serious questions about the real benefits of the scheme arise.
"The number of lenders involved in the scheme has fallen from seven to three and the number of builders has dropped from 25 to seven, so you have to question why these professionals don't want to stay involved with this scheme. There are also questions around whether the mortgage products will be available immediately and whether the interest rates will put people off.
"Therefore, I remain sceptical about how this scheme is going to bring good quality, affordable homes into the reach of families in this country and in places like West Lancashire. People want solutions not gimmicks.”
