School alert lighting outside Maharishi School is to be altered to operate at school opening times to improve road safety, after Rosie Cooper raised residents concerns.
The lights were installed to warn drivers to take care as they are approaching the school. Unfortunately the lights had been programmed to come on at 8.40am until 9.10am, which is consistent with the timings of other alert lights at schools across West Lancashire.
However the Maharishi School day does not start until 9.30am. Therefore, the lights are not having the desired effect by warning motorists and improving road safety
After initial enquires, the local resident turned to Rosie Cooper MP, who raised the issue with Lancashire County Council.
In response Lancashire County Council’s Director of Transport and Environment confirmed that they would amend the timings of the alert lights to match the schools opening and closing times.
MP Rosie Cooper said:
“Road safety outside all of our schools is vitally important. The locations of the Maharishi School on the corner of Cobbs Brow Lane and the junction of Cobbs Clough road means precautions are vital to protect motorists and pedestrians.
“I welcome Lancashire County Councils commitment to amend the lights to operate at the school opening and closing time that will improve road safety outside this school.”
