West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper, who has been a vocal opponent of any plans to extend the size or lifetime of WHitemoss landfill site working alongside local residents, WRATH and Arrow said:
"The decision to remove the Whitemoss proposal from the Minerals and Waste Framework is very welcome news. It is sad that it has taken several years, significant worry on the part of residents and the planning inspectorate for Lancashire County Council to finally listen. Residents and people like me have been saying enough is enough for a number of years.
"This is certainly a step in the right direction. However, I would encourage all residents to make their voices heard once again in the consultation in January. We need to keep the pressure on Lancashire County Council until the lifetime of this landfill site is brought to end and the promise made to residents years ago is finally kept."
