Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

13/12/2012 - Rosie Cooper MP statement on a railway feasability

Following the announcement of the funding for a feasibility study, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:

“I’ve been working closely with Merseytravel in recent months and met with the Chairman, Cllr Liam Robinson on Friday 7 December, to discuss developments on Skelmersdale.

“The news of this feasibility study is very welcome and a positive step in the right direction.  I am determined to see this railway station delivered. The people of Skelmersdale need it; they deserve it; and have waited long enough for it.

“The town needs to see an improvement in its transport connections that will open up so many opportunities when it comes to jobs, training, social and leisure activities.

“I am running a petition campaign encouraging local residents to make their voices heard in support of a railway station in the heart of the town centre, which they have done in large numbers.

“As the new face of Skelmersdale emerges with a new £42 million college and now with planning permission for the town centre redevelopment a railway station will support this regeneration.

“We’ve had 50 years of the new town without a railway station, we can’t afford for the town to have to wait another 50 years.  This feasibility study is part of keeping moving forward towards a new future for Skelmersdale.”
