Holidaymakers renewing their passports online are being warned by Rosie Cooper MP to double-check the site they use before applying.
West Lancashire residents have been hit with charges of £32-50 per application by checking service websites. Residents used the sites believing them to be official UK passport websites, instead the company charges you a fee to check you have completed your application or renewal forms correctly. Applications have to pay the renewal fee of £32-50 on top of the price for a new, or renewal of your, passport.
MP Rosie said:
“If applying online for a new or to renew your passport be careful. Make sure you are using the official Identity & Passport Service website.
“When you do a web search the top search isn’t always the correct site.
“It could prove to be a costly mistake for a family of four. Just to have your application form checked would cost £130.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to get stung by these charges unnecessarily.”
