West Lancashire MP Rosie is delighted to confirm that the lease for Aughton Police Point at Town Green railway station has finally been signed by Lancashire Police and Merseyrail over two and half a years since the original deal was negotiated.
The period of the lease is from 1 April 2012 to 29 March 2015, as was agreed at a meeting in November 2011 called by Rosie Cooper MP and attended by Aughton Parish Council, Lancashire Police and Merseyrail.
At the time the future of the police point was uncertain but a deal was brokered by MP Rosie that would keep the office open. All it required was for Aughton Parish Council to take responsibility for the lease.
Unfortunately at the beginning of 2014 Aughton Parish Council had still not finalised the agreement.
Once again Rosie Cooper MP intervened in March 2014 on this issue. Given the delays in finalising the deal a decision was taken to proceed without the involvement of Aughton Parish Council.
Aughton residents have contacted MP Rosie asking for official confirmation that finally the deal to keep Aughton Police Point at the train station was signed. Rosie has received written confirmation that Merseyrail and Lancashire Police signed the deal on 16 April 2014 after Rosie had announced it would be a matter of weeks to conclude the deal.
MP Rosie said:
“Following recent questions from residents I am delighted to confirm that the lease to retain Aughton Police Point was signed in April. It is just a shame that it has so much time, energy and effort over two and a half years to reach this point after this deal was originally brokered in November 2011.”
The existing lease only runs up to March 2015 as Merseyrail’s lease with Network Rail concludes at this time as well.
