14/08/2014 - Action to be taken to remove graffiti from Burscoug

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has been contacted by residents with regard to concerns surrounding offensive and racist graffiti at the rear of Burscough Sports Centre, Burscough.

MP Rosie Cooper contacted West Lancashire Community Leisure, West Lancashire Borough Council, Serco and Lancashire Police with regards to this issue. Each of these authorities recognise that graffiti has been a growing problem over the past 12 months.

In response, West Lancashire Community Leisure confirmed they are taking action by installing CCTV to cover the exterior of Burscough Sports Centre, providing additional fencing and security, and applying specialist “anti-graffiti’ treatment to the brickwork at the side of the building to remove the existing graffiti.

Rosie Cooper MP said:

“Residents clearly felt strongly enough to complain about the offensive nature of this graffiti, it is a problem that needs addressing.

“I hope that with these new measures, incidents of this kind will be reduced and that action is taken quickly to remove the existing and any new graffiti from this location.

“I hope these organisations can work together on preventative measures so that this problem doesn’t escalate.”
