West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is encouraging local residents and businesses who are looking to advertise to seek free advice and support from the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP).
Businesses in West Lancashire can contact CAP if they need any advice on producing advertisements that comply with the Advertising Codes so that how they represent their business maintains their consumers’ trust and avoids damaging their reputation.
CAP along with the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) are responsible for writing, updating and giving free advice to businesses on complying with the Advertising Codes. These organisations work together to ensure that every UK advertisement is responsible.
The ASA also ensure that advertisements are honest and responsible so that consumers can trust the ads they see and hear. Residents from West Lancashire can benefit from this service if they have concerns regarding an advertisement they feel is offensive or misleading.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“I would encourage all local West Lancashire businesses that are looking to advertise to take advantage of the services CAP offer so they can gain the relevant advice and guidance on promoting their businesses accurately. Businesses can also subscribe to a newsletter for the latest practical guidance in this field.
“For any residents who has felt or feels an advert is misleading or offensive I would encourage them to get in contact with the ASA to report them.”
