15/11/10 MP Rosie comments on new powers to control HMOs

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“The introduction of these powers, to control the spread and development of Homes of Multiple Occupation, although watered down, are nonetheless, welcome.  I worked closely with Ormskirk residents in lobbying the former Housing Minister John Healey to introduce powers that would enable, through the council, local communities to take back control.
“This will be good news for many residents in Ormskirk as long as the council uses these powers properly, strongly and effectively then it will make a real difference to the lives of all residents. Disappointingly it will take another 12 months before these powers come into force.  I will keep a close watch on developments to ensure that residents’ voices are heard.  It is no good having these measures if they are not used for the benefit of the community.”
