In relation to the Home Office’s new online crime mapping website, MP Rosie Cooper said:
“As with all new ideas, there are pros and cons. It is right that local residents have access to information about their area.
“I am mindful, however, that there is the potential for distorted statistics. With crime data being collected under postcodes, the information for quieter streets could be included in the crime mapping advice for more troublesome areas simply for having the same postcode, which has implications for such things as insurance.”
“On balance though, I think it is good that people are able to source this information and I trust that local residents will continue to work with the police in the best interests of their area.”
