16/03/11 - MP Rosie comments on Lancashire Police funding announcement

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:

“Lancashire Constabulary is acknowledged as one of the best police forces in the country and they are clearly trying to reduce the impact of budget cuts on frontline policing.  However, their hands are tied by the size and scale of the cuts introduced by the Conservative-led Government.  To cut over £40 million will have an effect on policing in Lancashire.  Middle and back office staff provide vital and necessary support that enables the frontline officers to do their jobs.  There is no way to dress this up other than as a backwards step for policing in Lancashire due to cuts that are too big and too fast.

“Keeping people safe at home and out on the streets has to remain a top priority.  These cuts could see crime increasing once again which will be devastating for so many individuals and entire communities.”
