Responding to the announcement that West Lancashire is to receive monies for high street investment, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“I very much welcome any additional investment that will help support and revitalise our town centres. This £100,000 growing to £300,000 can give local businesses a real boost and breathe new life into our town centres.
“Giving this money to West Lancashire Borough Council doesn’t fill me with confidence however. Back in 2009 the Council received £52,500 from the Labour Government’s High Street Fund to help tackle the problem of empty shops. This money disappeared into the Council’s reserves and our town centres saw no benefit.
“This time I want to see the Council use this money for the maximum of benefit of our town centres and our local businesses.”
