West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper was delighted to join West Lancashire Allotments Federation in celebrating the success of their award winning plot at the 2013 RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.
West Lancashire Allotments Federation joined with eight other federations from across the North West, to collaborate in presenting the allotment site. The theme was ‘The Magic of Growing’. For their efforts, the allotment federations were awarded ‘Best Show Feature 2013’.
On their own plot, West Lancashire Allotment Federation’s theme was “Recycle and Grow”, which was praised as “highly recommended”. The aim of the plot was to show how many everyday items can be recycled for growing. One of these features was a greenhouse made from plastic bottles.
MP Rosie visited the West Lancashire Allotments Federation’s display, saying:
“A massive congratulations to everyone involved in planning and delivering the projects on behalf of West Lancashire Allotments Federation! I’m delighted that all their hard work, commitment and creativity was recognised and they were successful in winning awards. They faced some strong competition.
“It was a real pleasure to visit their sites and see the amazing features they had created. They were very inventive and thoughtful.
“In my limited spare time, I enjoy gardening. The theme of “Recycle and Grow” has given me plenty of ideas for my own garden.”
Ray Fowler, on behalf of West Lancashire Allotments Federation, said:
“It was a fantastic achievement to come away from Tatton, such a prestigious Flower Show, with two real successes.
“We were delighted to welcome Rosie to the allotment shows we did and the collaboration with other North West federations.
“Given the success of this project, we hope to encourage people across West Lancashire to use some of these ideas in their own gardens or allotments. There is a real interest in people now growing their own fruit and vegetables. It is amazing how instead of throwing away everyday items they can be utilised to grow your own fruit, vegetables or flowers.
“At West Lancashire Allotments Federation, we are keen to support and encourage anyone wanting to get involved.”
