West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is appalled at the decision by Lancashire County Council to extend the lifetime of the Whitemoss landfill site past 2007.
“The decision taken by those County Councillors who voted for it was wrong, wrong, very wrong. It was taken by people who are not affected and will never be affected by the decision they took.”
“I hope I will see each of these County Councillors in Skelmersdale on a hot summers evening, when local people cannot sit in their back garden or sleep with their windows open because of the stench from the landfill site or worry about dangers to their health or their children’s health if any of the leachate leaks into the surrounding water table.”
“Local residents should pick up the phone and bombard the Environment Agency and Lancashire County Council with complaints every time they smell the obnoxious odours coming from the site.”
“I look forward to the day when Parish and Town Councils will get to decide planning matters so that local people make local decisions.”
