Responding to the report by IPPR North, West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said:
“The sheer scale in the difference between transport funding per head in London and the North West is outrageous. I very much welcome IPPR North’s report in highlighting the inequality between the regions.
“If places like West Lancashire had a reasonable level of investment then we could see schemes such as a railway station for Skelmersdale, progress on the Ormskirk bypass or the Burscough Curves getting the go ahead.
“Instead we are faced with bus services disappearing by the week, an inadequate road infrastructure, limited train services. A community absolutely reliant on the car if they need to get anywhere, whether to work, to school, to the doctors, to the shops or visit friends.
“I appreciate that London is a special case but not to the extent that London receives 20 times more per head in investment than the North West. Transport is essential for all people in all communities. I will continue to fight for West Lancashire to get a better deal on transport investment.”
