“I welcome the benefits this deregulation will bring to our cultural and sporting organisations, in the past opportunities have been lost due to unnecessary bureaucracy and cost.
“However, we have to strike a balance between encouraging and supporting those wanting to hold events against, amongst other considerations, safety issues and the impact of noise nuisance on those who live nearby.
“Without licensing, the police may not receive prior notification of events. With police budgets being slashed, forces are being stretched and if an event got out of hand, the police may not be able to cope.
“In addition to other concerns, noise from the activity and related noise from those going to and coming from venues, singing and general rowdiness needs to be considered.”
