Rosie Cooper MP

Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

21/02/11 - MP Rosie comments on bankers' bonuses

“We are constantly being told by this Conservative-led Government that we are all in it together when it comes to these tough economic times. Yet it seems time and time again that some of us are more in it than others.  This is true when it comes to bankers' bonuses.

“The banks were the ones that caused the crisis and they should do their fair share to meet the costs of recovery. It is clear that this Government is not making them pay their fair share. This means instead that the public sector and communities like West Lancashire have to bear the brunt with cuts to funding for schools, police, the NHS and vital services for the elderly and vulnerable.

“This is why I have told Ministers that they need to deal with the real problem and make bankers accountable for what they did and pay their fair share. Only then will people start to believe that we are all in this together.”
