Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

SKELMERSDALE’S Labour MP has welcomed moves to give residents on one estate a helping hand – literally!

Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire, congratulated Digmoor’s Cllr Terry Aldridge after securing cash to install hand rails on a set of steps and ramp in Abbeystead.

The steps and ramp are well used routes for people on the estate and go from the back of the Almond Tree pub to the bus stop on Gillibrands Road.

Rosie was recently invited by Cllr Aldridge to see the scheme for herself.

She said: “I’m delighted to see the hand rails are now in, and congratulate Terry for all his hard work. The paths are well used but without the handrails, they were proving difficult to navigate, especially for disabled and older people.

“The money came from Lancashire County Council’s ‘Lancashire Local’ committee which is made up of local councillors who set aside money for projects such as this.

“It’s all about getting the ‘grass roots’ issues sorted and I’m 100% supportive of it.”
