Rosie Cooper MP

Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

21/09/06 ROSIE COOPER STANDS AGAINST EXTENDED LIFE OF WHITEMOSS

Local MP Rosie Cooper is fighting against any extension to the life of Whitemoss landfill site. Rosie along with many local residents is opposed to the proposal to allow the dumping of hazardous waste to continue in Skelmersdale beyond the current lifetime of 2007.

Rosie said:

“I’ve had quite a few letters and phone calls objecting to any extension to White Moss Landfill site. I totally support the people objecting to any extension of time. They have had to put up with obnoxious smells for long enough. Local residents have been continually promised improvements and before long they are back where they started. A councillor has told me that it is easier to bury toxic waste than bury a member of your family in Skelmersdale.”

“I have written to West Lancashire District Council, Lancashire County Council and the Environment Agency to ensure they are fully aware of my objections. It is unfair to expect local people to continue living under these oppressive conditions.”
