Local Labour MP Rosie Cooper has been campaigning on behalf of West Lancashire residents on the issue of the future of the post office card accounts.
Rosie Cooper MP said:
“On the Post Office Account Cards I have made representations to the James Purnell, the Work and Pensions Secretary informing him of the strength of feeling of West Lancashire residents on this issue and the importance of retaining the Post Office Card Account for the viability of many post offices."
“I know the Government understands the important social and economic role of post offices in our communities, which why they have committed £1.7 billion to support the network in addition to the £2 billion invested between 1996 and 2006."
"It is my understanding the Post Office Ltd have submited a strong bid and must be in a strong position to secure the next phase."
“I very much look forward to Government supporting the continuation of the post office card account. I will continue to press Ministers hard on this issue."
