Working hard for the people of West Lancashire

22/06/09 Comment for Champion on Royal Mail proposals

"As I have stated publicly in the past, I am a firm supporter of a modern, publicly owned, universal postal service. I was heavily involved in the fight to save Newburgh Post Office and the Post Office Card Account and I have met with local CWU representatives in the past to discuss their concerns. We all agreed on the need to maintain a universal service that is not privatised but is modernised. I have written to the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills to relay the issues and concerns raised by the CWU to him and I will continue to press Government Ministers on this issue. I will continue to work hard towards an agreement that all sides find acceptable."
