WEST Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper is demanding that highways chiefs pull out all the stops to ensure major road works in Ormskirk Town Centre cause minimal disruption.
Rosie has received reassurances from Lancashire County Council after she wrote to them regarding resurfacing work from Derby Street West through to Knowsley Road.
The works are due to begin around mid October and are expected to last for a month.
Rosie Cooper MP said: “I was concerned that any road works should not cause gridlock in the town centre, as has happened previously.
“However, the County Council says that work will take place mainly at night, from 6pm until midnight and will be carried out in short lengths to minimize any noise disturbance and to allow access.
“There may also be some Sunday working, and the majority of work outside individual properties should take around two to three days.
“I also asked the County Council how they will be consulting residents and businesses, and I’m happy to report that they will be sending letters to those affected so that they will be kept updated.
“I’m sure that when the works have finished, it will leave Ormskirk with excellent road surfaces, but we need to ensure that while the works are underway that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.”
