West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has received a complaint from a local resident over West Lancashire Borough Council’s job advert for a Principal Environmental Health Officer.
The advert published on 1st November 2013 includes the following statement:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Environmental Protection and Community Safety Team, which is one of the largest in Lancashire. Whilst based in the industrial town of Skelmersdale, you will be regularly meeting the challenges of the pleasant market town of Ormskirk (home to Edge Hill University) and our more rural areas.
Rosie has written to the Joint Managing Directors at West Lancashire Borough Council to raise the resident’s complaint that this advert is ‘offensive’.
MP Rosie said
“It is clear from the complaint I received that a resident is very angry at how the Borough Council has chosen to describe areas of West Lancashire and the inferences the advert makes for prospective job applicants.
“I will await the response from West Lancashire Borough Council to see how they respond to this complaint. Afterall these council officer positions are funded from council tax paid by residents across the whole of the borough.”
