West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has been campaigning for the past six years calling on West Lancashire Borough Council to find a solution to the lack of burial space within the Borough that is costing local families thousands extra forcing them to bury their loved ones in neighbouring areas, including St Helens and Liverpool.
In response to the planning application for an extension of the planning permission, MP Rosie said:
“Developing sites, like the one at Pippin Street, can often be very technical and complex with various transport infrastructure and land issues needing to be resolved. The priority is to get these issues resolved quickly
“West Lancashire residents want a cemetery and crematorium and we’ve fought long and hard to get to where we are now.
“I am in regular contact with the site owners and West Lancashire Borough Council on this issue and they know my position on developing the burial grounds. I will continue to push hard to make the necessary progress as quickly as we can. The residents of West Lancs have waited long enough”
